Is Endwalker The Last Expansion For Final Fantasy XIV?
Final Fantasy XIV has been expanding every two years since 2013's Realms of Rebirth. Each of these major updates has introduced a number of new content to Square Enix's MMORPGs, and each version can be compared to a full standalone JRPG. Everything is filled with captivating stories, new areas, quests and impressive boss fights, constantly building out the game's dreamlike Eorzea scene. In FFXIV, the story progresses without explicit boundaries defining good or evil due in part to my own tastes and preferences in storytelling. History is typically defined by the winners, and in these cases, it is the loser who is consistently depicted as evil. The latest expansion for Final Fantasy XIV has been announced, and its name suggests it may be the last. But while the FFXIV: Endwalker expansion does mark an important milestone in the game's story, it's not the end of Square Enix's support for FFXIV.
And as with 2013’s reimagining and subsequent expansions, Endwalker’s development is headed by Naoki Yoshida. The director and producer have spent the last eight years reshaping Final Fantasy XIV into a critically-acclaimed MMO behemoth. This latest release marks the end of a decade-long storyline, one that stretches all the way back to the game’s original version, which launched in 2010. Endwalker brought an abundance of new features, including multiple new jobs, an increased level cap, vast new areas, updates to the battle system, a variety of new challenges to overcome, as well as crafter and gatherer content. Enough FFXIV Gil will help you a lot in this game.

Since the time of A Realm Reborn, the idea of the “Hydaelyn and Zodiark saga” already existed and was what we were working off of when creating the story. Being able to tell this story to its conclusion required Final Fantasy XIV to succeed as an MMORPG, and we were far from being able to declare the ongoing story as the Hydaelyn and Zodiark saga even at the time of Heavensward’s release. Following the release of Stormblood and having seen the growing community and success of the game, I thought it was time to more fully flesh out the concepts of the story and think as to how and where this conclusion might take place.
One of FFXIV's biggest highlights is its story, which has been rebooted since 2013's Reborn Realm. The player's character begins as a lone adventurer in one of Eorzea's three city-states. They soon become embroiled in a transcontinental war against the Garin Empire, becoming warriors of the Light and joining the Scion of the Seventh Dawn to help bring about world peace. Players across the globe can band together to fight bosses and dungeons, and it's not just the Eco Scion that faces threats throughout Eorzea. The story of FFXIV continues with the widely acclaimed Shadowbringers expansion and other stories told through regular updates, but the next major story beat takes place in Endwalker.
