ESO Gates of Oblivion Global Reveal

Elder Scrolls Online: Gates of Oblivion is a follow-up to last year's Dark Heart of Skyrim adventure, with the massive Blackwood expansion taking center stage in June, featuring 30 hours of new story content, new areas, companion systems, and loads more. Despite the fact that its name evokes a favorite game, Gates of Oblivion is much richer than the massively multiplayer version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The new expansion Gates of Oblivion, Zenimax and Bethesda's year-long adventure, and the first installment, the Blackwood Chapter, arrives on PC/Mac and Stadia on June 1st, and on Xbox One and PlayStation4 consoles June 8th. A diverse region that is home to both ambitious Imperials and the stalwart Argonians, in Blackwood, you will investigate a dark conspiracy that threatens this unique land and uncover the Daedric forces influencing events from Oblivion itself. In the new vision, ESO Gold still important for this game.

Creative Director Rich Lambert, himself a producer on "The Elder Scrolls 4," joined me on a video call to talk about everything that's going on in "The Elder Scrolls Online" this year. As you might expect, you can explore some familiar localities 800 years before the forgotten event, but Lambert describes most of the new content as ZeniMax's "own thing." There's also a greater focus on the hell-like realm of forgotten villain Mehrunes Dagon, the Deadlands, and we'll even explore a reimagined version of the city of Gideon, which hasn't been in the game for 27 years.

"Blackwood is a melting pot of culture," explains Rich Lambert, creative director at ESO. It extends from the southern end of Cyrodiil, full of plateaus and marshes, and eastward to the swamp boundaries of Shadowfen. The region has been at loggerheads with imperialists and Argonians for hundreds of years and we will explore the history of the region in this chapter." The Blackwood Chapter is part of the year-long Gateway to Oblivion, an important part of a year-long saga that will run through 2021. Of course, you don't have to complete any previous content to enjoy finding a stand-alone story in Blackwood as you battle potential tyrants and disbanded Daedric manipulation. "This year, the story we're telling is essentially about making a deal with the devil. Long ago the Longhouse entered into an agreement with the Mehrunes Dagon, and it was up to the player to determine what was going on and how to stop it from happening."

The Gates of Oblivion story will be told throughout the year, starting with the Flames of Ambition DLC, which will add context and set up the events of Blackwood. I asked Lambert about some of the moving parts brewing ahead of the starting line. Lambert explained, "The Longhouse Emperors entered into a pact, or made a deal with the devil, essentially, with Mehrunes Dagon, where they would help him invade Tamriel as long as they got to rule [Tamriel] in his image. So, that was their offer to him. He took them up on it, and he gave them the power they needed, in essentially creating four weapons of mass destruction".
